Alex

Alex’s began showing his interest in art since he was young. He always took his box of colours to wherever he went and drew abstract coloured sketches of the surroundings. His different artwork and association of colour to different environments made his mother vary of him. It was then, at the age of 12 that he was proven to be living with chromesthesia.

However, Alex did not take this as a problem but rather as a gift that enabled him to come up with his unique style of art and designing. To pursue his dreams he went to Bournemouth University to get a degree in design. And stayed there even after graduation.

It was in the summer ball of his graduation year that he met Emily, the love of his life. Alex's unique sight of colour and his vivid descriptions of nature and music impressed Emily. It has been almost 10 years now, but they are still together.

Currently, Alex works as a freelance graphic designer and designs covers for music labels. His chromesthesia helps him design artworks that are unique and true to the music at the same time.

Emily

Emily grew up in London and was a city girl. She was always interested in the glamorous world behind the shiny adverts she saw in the magazines.

What lead to her to choose Bournemouth University for a Marketing and Communications degree was the fun-filled ‘everyday is a holiday’ attitude of that town. But she never knew that she will one day find her partner and settle down there, away from the shinny lights of London.

Today, she is the sub-head of department at a local marketing agency in Bournemouth and is well respected in her office. What calms her down at the end of a tedious day of work is the smile on Alex’s face. He usually cooks the meal because he likes to and Emily serves the desert, sometimes after dinner.

It was not until two years into their relationship that Emily came to know about his chromesthesia. His condition did not bother her at the surface, but she always wondered if he could be normal. Perhaps this was the reason that Emily did not understand Alex at first when he lost something so integral to him. Their relationship is, thus, interwoven in the story on the parallel.
